The Port of Seattle’s Comprehensive Anti-Human Trafficking Strategy

Human trafficking is defined as the brutal trade of people for the purpose of labor, or sex, using force, fraud or coercion.  The number of human trafficking cases in Washington state is increasing rapidly. Native Americans and other people of color are targeted the most. What began as a small internal effort to do more to stop Port facilities from being used as human trafficking transit points, has evolved into a comprehensive long-term program, which has led to the Port being recognized as leader on this issue at the national level.  The Port’s Comprehensive Strategy is what brought the efforts in the past to a concise path forward and an awareness campaign was just on piece of the overall strategy and has led to the Port being on the in the front in the transportation industry.
